Canadian Drawbacks

In Canada, the Duty Drawback Program allows businesses to recover duties, taxes, and tariff fees paid on imported goods under specific conditions. Administered by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), this program is particularly beneficial for exporters, manufacturers, and businesses engaged in international trade.

U.S. Drawbacks

In the United States, the Duty Drawback Program is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) initiative that allows businesses to recover duties, taxes, and fees paid on imported goods when certain conditions are met. We can submit drawbacks for US clients who are looking to receive recovery for costs for duties, taxes and fees.

What is Duty Drawback

Duty drawback is a refund or rebate of customs duties, taxes, and fees that were paid on imported goods when those goods are later exported. The purpose of duty drawback is to provide money back to businesses that may be owed to you. This financial relief could help your business with financial burdens and help increase cash flow.

You are eligible for Duty Drawback if you do any of the following:

  • Goods that are imported and then re-exported in the same condition.
  • Goods that are imported, used in manufacturing or processing, and the resulting product is exported.
  • Goods that are imported but are deemed unfit for consumption and then exported or destroyed.

When working with Canadian Drawback Agency we work on a contingency fee based process, which means we work on a percentage of the duty drawback claim we submit. In the event that no monies are recovered there is no cost to the client.

Our specialized software

  • Our team has expanded operations to handle large-scale claims by using specialized software.
  • The software we use does a line by line part number match using the reports that we put together and extracts the required data for the claim.
  • The software has an Automatic Quantity Tracking system: it automatically tracks leftover quantities from previous claims that can be used for later claims.
  • It reduces the potential in human error, ensuring that the claims are accurate and compliant with CBSA standards.
  • The program makes Customizable Reports: we can tailor reports to specific needs or regulations, changing required columns based on the type of claim being submitted.

The Refund Process

  • Canadian Drawback Agency will review your import and export data and determine if you are eligible for a refund free of charge.
  • We will make a customizable drawback report with your imports and exports and submit to the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA).
  • Once your claim is submitted, we then work with the CBSA to obtain your refund by submitting samples to verify your drawback claim.
  • Once your claim is approved you will receive your refund directly from Canadian Border Service Agency.
  • For companies that have never submitted a recovery claim you can go back, and recoup import duties paid dating four years back from the date the drawback is submitted.
  • For complex scenarios, our team prepares and secures favorable customs rulings before submitting refund requests. This proactive approach not only ensures proper tariff classification but also maintains compliance with the CBSA.

Duty Relief Program

The Duty Relief and Duty Deferral Program is a specialized customs initiative designed to allow businesses to import goods without paying duties upfront, provided those goods are exported, used in manufacturing for export, or destroyed under proper supervision. This program benefits manufacturers, exporters, and businesses in industries that rely heavily on international trade. Our specialists can assist in the process and steps required for applying for duty relief.

Accurate Tariff Classification

Tariff classification is ensuring goods are properly classified under the Harmonized System (HS) tariff to avoid errors and overpayments. Our specialists can review your goods and materials and ensure you are paying the correct duty rate by assessing your data and reviewing your classification codes. We will make sure you are in accordance with the Customs Tariff and we will verify that applicable preferential trade agreements, preferential tariff treatments, and respective duty rates are correctly applied to your imports. For complex scenarios, our team prepares and secures favorable customs rulings before submitting refund requests.
